Bultungin

Bultungin is a mountain monster—massive, muscular and earth-warm—described by highland naturalists as a hulking predator that moves like a shifting scree. Smell: a metallic tang of wet iron mixed with crushed fern and stone dust. Sound: a low, reedy rumble that travels through the ground, punctuated by the crunch of heavy steps and the occasional wet, bark-like exhalation. Temperature: the air around it feels dry-warm, as if the soil itself has been sun-baked; close approach carries a faint heat against the skin. Field observers note coarse, moss-streaked hide, deep crescented tracks, and a habit of favoring narrow ridgelines where its weight can unbalance travelers.
