Catequil

Catequil is a Deity of storm and lightning, felt as much as seen across ridgelines and puna. In the field he announces himself before the first strike: the air takes on a clean, metallic tang—ozone and crushed stone—like the smell after a knife is dragged across flint. Sound is his signature: not only the rolling, drumlike thunder but sharp, brittle cracks that split silence as if someone struck a suspended bell; sometimes distant conch-calls and the rhythmic stomp of many feet seem to ride the echoes. Temperature shifts abruptly when he passes—an instant of electric heat along the skin, then a biting, alpine chill as wind and rain follow. Observed behavior is grand and ritual in scale, as if the mountain itself breathes in time with each peal.
