Hantu Penanggal

Hantu Penanggal is a Hostile Spirit/Undead most often recorded in village accounts as an isolated nocturnal predator. Field notes describe a chill that precedes arrival — a sudden deadness to the air — and the smell of old iron and damp cloth carried on the wind. Auditory cues are subtle: a faint, wet rustling as if something slick brushes leaves, and the distant hush of wings that do not sound like any bird. Visually it is reported as a disembodied head that moves with slow, deliberate purpose; the impression is of something impossible and fragile rather than brutish. Observers write in the ledger with a steady hand: it feels cold to the bones and leaves surfaces clammy, like the night itself has been peeled back.
