Izanami

Izanami is a Deity of birth and the shadowed realm of the dead. She registers less as a figure and more as a shift in the environment: smell, sound and temperature realigning to acknowledge her passage. Smell: a cool, mineral tang of ash and wet stone, like rain on charred earth. Sound: a single, distant funeral bell and hushed, rustling whispers as if paper and leaves were speaking. Temperature: a persistent, bone-deep chill—not the bite of winter but the hollow cool of caves and long-cooled embers. Field note: plants near her presence close their flowers; lamps gutter without draft; even confident animals grow quiet, as if listening for something beyond sight.
