Sasabonsam is a Hostile (Monster) of Akan forest lore, described as a tree-dwelling ambush predator spotted deep in old-growth rainforest. Smell: a heavy musk of wet loam, damp leaves and overripe fruit — the scent of a hollow stump after rain. Sound: the dry snap of branches at head height, a hollow creak like wood under strain, and an intermittent keening that hangs oddly between a cough and a call. Temperature: the air beneath its branch feels warm and humid, as though a living weight radiates heat into the understory. Field observations note long, hooked limbs, coarse reddish or dark fur along the shoulders, backward-facing feet, and a habit of perching motionless until prey passes beneath.
