Baba Yaga flew low over the Siberian taiga, her iron pestle steering her giant mortar. Mortar Flight. She was hungry, and she spotted a creature of impossible beauty grazing on a cloud. It was Al-Buraq, the heavenly steed, its coat shining like polished stars.
"Pretty horse!" the witch cackled. "Into the soup you go!"
She accelerated, the mortar grinding agaisnt the air, trailing smoke. She prepared a Three-Task Bargain net to snare the beast.
Al-Buraq lifted its head. It had a human face full of serene intelligence. It did not fear the witch; it simply had somewhere else to be.
The Speed of Faith
Baba Yaga lunged, her net cast wide. "Gotcha!"
Al-Buraq took one step. Horizon Stride.
The steed didn't just run; it teleported to the furthest point its eye could see in a single motion. One moment it was in front of the mortar; the next, it was a glimmer on the edge of the atmosphere.
Baba Yaga cursed, pushing her magical vehicle to its limit. The mortar shook, the pestle glowing white-hot. But trying to catch Al-Buraq with a kitchen implement was like trying to catch a photon with a butterfly net.
Al-Buraq took another step, traversing seven heavens in a heartbeat. It left behind only a trail of ozone and stardust. Baba Yaga was left coughing in the divine exhaust, alone in the cold sky. "Too fast," she grumbled, turning her mortar around. "I'll eat a bear instead."
