Balor stood on the coastline, his eyelid drooping like a heavy curtain. Four servants struggled to lift it with hooks. "Let me see him," the giant grumbled.
Cronus waited. He did not run. He held a sickle that gleamed with a light older than the sun.
A Blink in Time
The eyelid rose. The Death-Gaze began to emit a scorched-earth beam of annihilation.
Cronus twisted the handle of his sickle. Mantle of the Golden Age.
Time did not stop, but it became thick. Like honey. The beam of death moved inches per second. Balor's roar of triumph slowed to a low, tectonic groan.
Cronus walked calmly through the frozen moment. He stepped around the path of the beam. He climbed the giant's chest.
"You are late," Cronus whispered.
He swung Uranus' Sickle. It was the blade that severed heaven from earth. It severed Balor's head just as easily. Time snapped back, and the Fomorian king fell, his eye burning a hole in the empty sky.
