The desert night was cool. The Chupacabra, a skittering creature of spines and mange, sniffed the air. Nocturnal Shadowfold. It smelled prey. Not a goat this time, but something richer. Something with sweet blood.
It crept over the dune. Standing by a dried-up well was a woman in a white hanbok.
The Chupacabra didn't understand beauty. It only understood hunger. It tensed its hind legs, ready to spring.
The woman turned. Her eyes were not human; they were vertical slits of fox-fire.
The Bait
The Chupacabra lunged. Triple-Puncture Hemovore. Its fangs were designed to pierce hide and drain life in seconds. It aimed for the neck.
It bit down hard.
CRACK.
It didn't taste blood. It tasted granite.
The illusion flickered. Nine-Tailed Glamour. The woman wasn't there. The Chupacabra was clinging to a large, jagged rock, its teeth aching from the impact.
The Fox
Laughter echoed from the top of the rock. The Gumiho sat there, her nine white tails fanning out like a peacock's display.
"You possess no elegance," she chided. "Just appetite."
She held out her hand. A glowing marble hovered above her palm. Yeowoo Bead Manifestation.
The Chupacabra hissed, confused and in pain. It tried to run, to scramble back into the shadows.
The Gumiho inhaled. The bead pulsed.
She didn't drink blood; she drank qi. The life force of the Chupacabra was ripped from its body in a stream of blue light. The cryptid froze mid-step, then collapsed. It withered rapidly, turning into a dry, hollow husk.
The Gumiho swallowed the energy, smoothed her dress, and vanished into the night.
