The Grootslang, a primordial mistake of creation with the body of an elephant and the tail of a serpent, guarded the Wonder Hole. It lay on a bed of uncut diamonds, emanating a Glamour of the Wonder Hole to lure greedy men.
Tonight, it felt a presence that didn't want diamonds.
Mama Quilla, the Inca Moon Goddess, stood on the ridge. She was illuminated in silver, holding a disc of pure platinum.
The Grootslang roared, shaking the cavern. It resented the light. Primordial Constriction. It lunged, fifty tons of muscle and hate, intending to crush the goddess.
The Silver Tide
Mama Quilla did not move. She simply raised a hand. Eclipse Veil.
The light in the cave shifted. Shadows elongated and hardened.
Then she cast Cycleweave. She accelerated the lunar pull.
Deep within the aquifer beneath the Wonder Hole, the water responded. A sudden, impossible tide surged upward—a Tidal Quench from below. The water rose instantly, filling the cavern with crushing pressure.
"Sleep," Mama Quilla commanded.
The water was heavy with silver moonlight. It sapped the Grootslang’s strength. The beast, trapped in its own lair by the rising flood, found its eyelids growing heavy. It sank back onto its bed of useless diamonds, forced into a magical hibernation by the Queen of the Night.
