The night air was filled with two sounds: a wet slithering and a manic giggle.
The Mahaha, a blue-skinned demon from the Inuit ice, wandered the tropical village. It was lost, hot, and looking for someone to kill with laughter. Icy Cackle.
It looked up and saw a nightmare descending.
The Hantu Penanggal was a woman’s beautiful head... with nothing attached below the neck but a trailing mess of dangling organs. Detached-Head Flight. She dripped venom and smelled of vinegar.
The Tickle Fight
The Mahaha grinned, revealing too many teeth. It lunged, its long, sharp fingernails extended. Frost-Tickling Fingers. It aimed for the armpits, the ribs, the soft spots where laughter lives.
It swiped at the air.
There were no armpits. There were no ribs. There was only a esophagus and a stomach.
The Mahaha paused, confused. "Where... where is the funny bit?"
The Coil
The Penanggal hissed. She whipped her intestines forward like a lasso.
Neonate Blood Siphon.
The wet, muscular organs wrapped around the Mahaha’s neck. The demon gagged, clawing at the slippery flesh. The Penanggal squeezed. She didn't have lungs to laugh with, but she had a hunger that was endless.
She tightened her grip, her fangs sinking into the Mahaha’s shoulder. She drained the cold, manic energy from the spirit, drinking it like a slushie.
The Mahaha dissolved into a puddle of warm water, its giggle silenced by the visceral reality of the jungle’s most horrific predator.
