Heimdall stood on the Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge. He did not move. He was watching a speck of gold in the southern sky, thousands of miles away.
"He approaches," Heimdall said to the empty air.
The speck grew. It was a falcon, diving at supersonic speed. It was Horus, the Avenger.
Heimdall drew his sword, Hofund. He shifted his stance one inch to the right.
Three seconds later, Horus slammed into the bridge where Heimdall had been standing a moment ago. The impact shook the stars.
The Unseen and the All-Seeing
Horus shifted from falcon to warrior-king, his khopesh glowing with the heat of the desert sun. "You saw me," Horus acknowledged, his voice regal.
"I hear the blood in your veins," Heimdall replied. "I know where you will strike before you do."
Horus attacked. His strikes were a blur of gold and bronze. Heimdall parried every single one. Clang. Clang. Clang. The Watchman was a wall of defense. He found an opening and thrust Hofund into Horus’s side.
A mortal wound.
But Horus did not fall. The Wedjat Eye on his chest glowed blue. The wound knitted itself shut in an instant.
"I am restored," Horus declared, pressing the attack.
The War of Attrition
Heimdall frowned. He could see every blow, parry every strike, and land his own. But he could not kill the sun.
He raised the Gjallarhorn to his lips. He blew a blast that shattered the golden armor of the Egyptian king. Horus was thrown back, stunned, his ears ringing.
Heimdall charged, aiming to finish the fight while his foe was down.
But Horus rose, his eyes burning with Royal Mandate. He unleashed the Behdety Solar Dive, turning his entire body into a missile of concentrated solar fire. The heat was so intense it began to melt the rainbow bridge itself.
Heimdall was forced to shield his eyes. For the first time in an eternity, the Watchman blinked.
In that fraction of darkness, the khopesh struck.
Heimdall was knocked from the bridge, tumbling into the void. He caught himself on a star, looking up at the Falcon King who stood panting but victorious on the burning bridge.
"Your watch is ended," Horus saluted, before taking flight back to the south.
