The Jinn sat in the ruins of the caravanserai, meditating. He hovered three feet off the ground, a being of pure, smokeless heat.
The Nachtalb crept in from the German forest. It was a shadow-creature, a "night elf" that sat on the chests of sleepers to suffocate them. Alpdruck. It saw the floating figure and assumed it was asleep.
"Heavy dreams," the Nachtalb whispered.
The Weight
The Nachtalb leaped, landing on the Jinn’s chest. It increased its density, trying to crush the breath from its victim. Nocturnal Whisper.
The Jinn opened one eye. It glowed like an ember.
"I do not sleep," the Jinn stated. "And you are cold."
The Light
The Nachtalb shrieked as the chest beneath it began to glow.
Smokeless-Fire Form.
The Jinn didn't push the demon off. He simply ignited. His physical form dissolved into a roaring column of magical fire.
The Nachtalb, being made of shadow and malice, had a very low tolerance for 3,000-degree heat. It burned instantly, its form unraveling like smoke in a hurricane.
The Jinn reached out a hand of flame and caught the dissipating vapors of the spirit. He produced an empty brass oil lamp from thin air.
"In you go," the Jinn said, stuffing the smoking remains of the Nachtalb into the vessel. He corked it tight. "A genie in a bottle is cliché. A demon in a bottle? That is a conversation piece."
