The ocean was a deep, violently green turmoil. Nyi Roro Kidul rose from the surf, adorned in emeralds and wet silk. She did not scream; she beckoned. The Southern Sea's Claim pulled at the light itself, trying to drag the intruder into the depths.
Above her, the golden Solar Barque of Ra sailed on the air, burning with the light of a nuclear detonation.
"You trespass, Boatman," Nyi Roro Kidul whispered, her voice carrying over the roar of the waves.
"I illuminate," Ra replied. His voice was the crackle of dry papyrus. "Shadows retreat. Tides recede."
The Boiling Sea
Nyi Roro Kidul raised her hands. The ocean obeyed. Monsoon Weave twisted the water into waterspouts, massive pillars of green brine launching themselves at the sun-boat.
Ra stood at the prow. He didn't shrink. He faced chaos every night in the Duat. A few waves were nothing compared to the Serpent.
He removed the solar disk from his crown and held it aloft. Eye of Ra.
A beam of concentrated heat struck the water.
It didn't just warm the sea; it erased it. The waterspouts turned instantly to steam. A wall of white fog exploded upward, blinding and scalding.
Victory at Zenith
Nyi Roro Kidul hissed, retreating beneath the waves to escape the searing heat. She tried to summon the Emerald Cloak Glamour, creating illusions of reefs and whirlpools to confuse the pilot.
But Ra was the concept of sight. He saw through the water, through the steam, through the glamour.
"I see you," Ra intoned.
He poured more power into the Eye. The ocean around Java began to boil. Fish floated to the surface, cooked. The coral bleached white.
Nyi Roro Kidul, realizing her domain was becoming a trap, was forced to flee into the deepest trench, abandoning the surface to the Sun God.
Ra replaced his crown. The barque sailed on, the water beneath it calm and flat as glass.
