Lore
Gumiho is a Fae fox-spirit: a lithe, nine‑tailed shapeshifter that moves between hearth and moonlight like a secret. Smell: the dry sweetness of persimmon and the faint iron of old coins, as if autumn itself were in its breath. Sound: a soft rustle like dead leaves and silk, undercut by a distant, teasing lullaby; close by, a whisper that mimics the voices of the lonely. Temperature: otherworldly cool — encounters leave the air crisp, as though the world has stepped into moonlight. Field notes: in true fox form the fur gleams deceptively warm; in human guise the skin carries that same cool, patient stillness. Observe quietly; it studies the small details humans leave behind.

Field Notes
Observations
- A sudden ring of untouched footprints that seem to loop back on themselves, or the glint of multiple tails in the corner of a room where no tails should be.
Encounter Advice
- mischief: Gumiho tests boundaries with stories, bargains, and mimicry. It will impersonate lost kin, leave tempting gifts, or propose trades that sound small but have precise, binding terms. It keeps to rules it can twist rather than break.
- interaction: Do not accept solitude with one; keep companions and daylight between you. Be precise in promises and never relinquish your true name. Distract with offerings and clear bargains — set limits in plain language and watch for mirrored replies. Bright light, open thresholds, and steady questions unsettle its shape‑work.
- offering: Dried persimmons, rice cakes, small tokens of personal value (left with clear labels) — offerings to distract or open a fair bargain.
Abilities
- Soul-Devouring KissThrough a kiss or close contact it siphons a victim's liver or heart, absorbing vitality to heal and extend its life.
- Nine-Tailed GlamourUnfurls illusions from its nine tails to flawlessly assume human form, bend perceptions, and inflame desire or fear in targets.
- Yeowoo Bead ManifestationChannels the luminous yeowoo guseul (fox-bead) to discharge concentrated spirit-energy or rapidly mend itself, while the bead's loss cripples its powers.
Weaknesses
- Yeowoo Guseul TheftIf the gumiho's fox-bead (yeowoo guseul) is stolen or destroyed it loses shapeshifting and most magic until it is recovered.
- Exposure of True FormSeeing its true form in a bona fide mirror or sacred reflective surface breaks its glamour and leaves it vulnerable to being driven off or slain.
- Compulsion to Consume Human OrgansAn ingrained drive to eat human livers/hearts can be anticipated and exploited as bait or to predict its movements.
