Lore

Naga Tasik Chini is a Deity — the lake's ancient water-serpent and guardian. In field terms it announces itself as a slow, liquid presence: the air around it carries a peat-iron scent, like wet leaves pressed into old soil; sound manifests as a low, resonant throat-note or the hollow drum of submerged timber rather than sharp splashes; temperature falls several degrees, bringing a damp, clammy cool that beads on skin and condenses into a thin blue-green mist that clings to reeds. Close observation finds no ordinary wake: patterns in the lily pads and the fish schooling beneath the surface rearrange as if guided by a careful, deliberate intelligence rather than chance.

Field Notes

Observations
  • A long S-shaped ripple at dusk that crosses the lake without wind, often accompanied by lilies folding inward along its path.
Encounter Advice
  • taboo: Do not haul water from the lake's center, do not cut or uproot water plants, and avoid loud displays or weapons on the shore at sunset — these acts are said to offend the Naga.
  • reverence: Leave a small offering on the water's edge at dusk (folded leaf with cooked rice and a sprig of pandan or flowers), speak a brief respectful phrase, and avoid naming the Naga loudly; kindness and restraint are regarded as proper rites.
  • offering: A small folded leaf cup of cooked rice and a fresh flower set afloat at dusk; incense or a candle may be placed on the shore but kept distant from the water.

Abilities

  • Palace-Reflection Lure
Conjures perfect, moving reflections of lost kin or desired objects on the lake's surface and the voices that accompany them, coaxing victims to step onto the glass and sink into the water's memory.
  • Drowned-Palace Tides
Commands the submerged ruins of Tasik Chini to rise and fall as living architecture, creating sudden localized tides that tip boats, swallow paths, or reveal sunken thresholds to the spirit world.
  • Reed-Song of Chini
Sends a hollow, reed-like call across marsh and reed that loops a fisher's memories into obsession, driving them to chase phantom catches until they wade too deep.

Weaknesses

  • Kain Kuning Binding
A yellow cloth stitched exactly seven times and draped across a vessel's prow blinds the naga's reflection-sorcery for a day.
  • Pulut Kuning & Sirih
A ritual offering of pulut kuning (yellow glutinous rice) with betel nut laid at dawn placates the naga and delays its wrath for three nights.
  • Salt of the Mountain Spring
Salt harvested from the spring that feeds Tasik Chini scorches its scales and prevents the naga from crossing the stream of that spring.
