Nüwa
CreatorSerpentSky-RepairerMotherChinese Mythology
Lore
Nüwa is a Deity often depicted with a human torso and a serpentine lower body — a prime mother and mender of world-stuff. In the field she announces herself through materials and atmosphere rather than speech: the smell of damp clay, river silt and ozone after a storm; the sound of a low, resonant chime like struck jade, the soft settling of stones and distant, answering thunder; a temperature that is warm and humid, like earth warmed by sun after rain. Visuals accompany the sense impressions — scales that flash like polished river pebbles, hands that shape figures from mud, and the lingering sign of five-colored stones fused into sky or cliff where a rupture has been healed. Notes record a patient, deliberate presence that feels more like repair than wrath.

Field Notes
Observations
- A sudden band of five-colored light or stones where sky and rock meet, fresh impressions of clay figures, and a lingering mineral, rain-soaked scent.
Encounter Advice
- taboo: Do not claim authorship of another's making, do not pry into the place where sky and earth were mended, and do not remove or scatter the multicolored stones used in repair. Desecration of works of making or of waterways is considered a serious offence.
- reverence: Respect is shown through quiet acts of repair and care: offering small clay figures, returning broken tools mended, tending riverbanks and wells, and singing simple, sober hymns at dawn. Public display of gratitude — mending a broken roof or restoring a ruined field in her name — is the preferred ritual.
- offering: Hand-formed clay figures, polished river stones in five colors, or the practical gift of mended tools and tended waterways.
Abilities
- Heaven-Stitch (Mend the Sky)Melts and fuses five-colored stones to patch ruptures in the heavens and re-weave cosmic order in a single rite.
- Clay-Spirit ImbuementShapes yellow earth into figures and breathes spirit into them, animating humans and lesser life from mud.
- Turtle-Pillar CommandSummons or repositions the great turtle Ao's legs as living supports to prop up damaged celestial pillars and ley-anchors.
Weaknesses
- Reliance on Five-Colored StonesCannot perform a full cosmic repair without access to melted five-colored stones or equivalent chromatic materia.
- Anchor Dependency (Ao's Legs)If the turtle-legs that stabilize the sky are broken, her mending becomes temporary and she must physically recover or find replacement anchors.
