Kamaitachi Lore & Origins

Kamaitachi is a Fae commonly reported as a weasel-like shape borne on a sudden whirl of wind. Field notes describe a low, sinuous body wrapped in ruffled fur, moving in staccato bursts as if stitched to gusts. Smell: a sharp, ozone-sweet tang layered with crushed dry grass and river mineral. Sound: a thin, paper-blade whisper—like cloth being sliced or wind through reed—often arriving in three distinct chirrs. Temperature: an abrupt, biting cold localized to the air where it passes, leaving skin numb and hairs raised. Sightings favour high passes, rice paddies at dawn, and shaded mountain trails where winds gather.
