Noppera-bō Lore & Origins
Noppera-bō Encounter Protocols & Field Notes
- A human figure whose face becomes perfectly smooth and featureless when you look at it or speak to it.
- mischief: Impersonates acquaintances, appears in reflections as blank, and times its reveal to moments of loneliness or fatigue to maximize alarm. It delights in the pause between recognition and understanding.
- interaction: Remain calm and steady. Speak your name or a neutral phrase; do not scream or point. Some witnesses report that acknowledging the sight without panic causes the form to dissolve or revert. Do not attempt to touch or capture it—close observation, not force, is the correct response.
- offering: A small, courteous gesture—bowing or quietly speaking a respectful phrase—can dispel its attention; leaving a single, clean household item (a handkerchief or coin) has been said to shorten its visit.
