Pocong

Pocong is a bound burial spirit observed as a small, hopping silhouette wrapped in a white shroud, often with the knot that once tied the corpse plainly visible. Smell: a damp, earthy tang with the faint sourness of burial cloth and river mud. Sound: a rhythm of short, staccato hops and distant, muffled sobbing or whispering that seems to come from beneath layers of fabric. Temperature: an abrupt chill that gathers around the feet and ankles, as if the air itself is being drawn away. Field notes: encounters are described with clinical calm—movement constrained by cloth, presence centered on old graves or forgotten corners of village paths, and an unshakable sense of unfinished business rather than wild frenzy.
