Tikoloshe Lore & Origins
Tikoloshe is a small, hostile spirit often described in the field as squat and amphibious—a creature that moves with wet, furtive deliberation. In close encounters the air carries a brackish, earthy tang of river mud and fish oil; sounds are low and irregular: a wet slapping of feet, a soft chittering like an animal unfamiliar with light, and sometimes a childish giggle at the edge of hearing. Temperature reads unnaturally cold and clammy where it has passed, leaving skin prickled with damp chill. Physically it behaves like something caught between flesh and spirit: it can be felt and sometimes seen, but it leaves the same ephemeral traces as a shadow at the waterline.
