Wakwak

Wakwak is a hostile cryptid of Philippine night lore, described as an avian-like predator that haunts village edges and lonely roads after dusk. Smell: a metallic, wet-iron tang mixed with the sourness of damp leaves and old smoke. Sound: a hollow, breathy clicking or repeated "wakwak" call, accompanied by the muffled thud and rasp of large wings. Temperature: the air near its passage takes on an immediate chill, the kind that settles in bones as if dusk itself has deepened. A field naturalist notes feather fragments at dawn, lantern reflections on glassy eyes, and the way domestic animals fall silent long before a sighting.
