Eshu is a trickster-orisha who inhabits thresholds and crossroads, moving like a dry wind along the edges of villages and choices. Smell: a thin film of palm oil, smoke and warm earth that lingers where he has paused. Sound: the loose rattle of beads, a sudden chorus of small footsteps and laughter coming from more than one direction at once. Temperature: the air near him takes on a cool, crisp quality—an almost metallic chill that sharpens senses and makes words feel heavier.
