Fu Lions

Fu Lions — guardian deities cast as stone or bronze lions that stand vigil at thresholds and temples. Field notes: they present as a paired ecology — one bold, one watchful — their carved manes like frozen waves and their faces worn smooth by centuries of hands. Smell: the dry sweetness of incense and sandalwood braided with the mineral tang of rain on stone. Sound: the hollow echo of distant bells, the hush of silk and paper offerings, and the occasional faint chime when wind threads between their tails. Temperature: cool, stony to the touch, yet carrying a faint, stubborn warmth at their base, as if a slow ember of protection remains banked beneath the surface.
